ROOF COVERING - DIFFERENT WAYS AND TYPES OF ROOF COVERING

Are you currently facing the dilemma of a deteriorating roof or contemplating the construction of a new home, uncertain about the ideal roofing choice? The importance of selecting the right roof covering cannot be overstated, as it serves as the ultimate protective layer, safeguarding your house against various elements such as water, wind, and heat.

In this informative guide, we'll explore different roof covering options tailored to diverse weather conditions, roof shapes, and slopes.

What types of roofs exist?

1.Bitumen-based Coverings (Bitumen Shingles - Tegola Type)

Bitumen tiles, cost-effective but requiring complete roof underlayment, are easy to install and suitable for slopes from 5 to 90 degrees. While they resist hail and earthquakes, they lack thermal insulation, have a relatively short lifespan, and demand periodic maintenance.

2.Clay and Concrete Coverings (Tile)

Reliable and long-lasting, clay and concrete tiles come in various shapes and colors, with a lifespan of up to 50 years. They are environmentally friendly, easy to install, and low-maintenance. However, they are heavier than bituminous coverings and may change color over time.

3.Sheet Metal Covers (Aluminum, Copper, or Steel)

Lightweight and fire-resistant, sheet metal covers are long-lasting, require no maintenance, and offer installation flexibility. They come in different colors and shapes, with a lifespan of at least 50 years. However, they may have limitations in appearance, poor sound insulation, and require an ideally prepared roof structure.

Roof Coverings According to Slope

Roofs are classified as flat, slightly pitched, or steep based on their slope:

For flat roofs (2-5°), sheet metal roofing is recommended for effective water runoff. Bituminous roofing is suitable for flat and sloping roofs, while tin roofing is recommended for minimally pitched roofs.

For sloping roofs (5-30°), sheet metal coverings, especially in tile form, are suitable

Brick tiles are common for slopes between 30 and 40°, while fiber cement roofing is lighter and suitable for slopes over 15°. Concrete tiles are optimal for slopes between 20° and 45°.

Steep roofs (over 30°) are characteristic of alpine regions. Wooden shingles, durable and suitable for slopes between 45° and 60°, have been used since ancient times. They are made from evergreen trees like larch, offering resilience and longevity.

Choosing the right roof covering is crucial for the longevity and resilience of your home

Each type comes with its own advantages and considerations, from cost-effective bitumen tiles to the timeless appeal of clay and concrete tiles, to the modern durability of sheet metal covers. The slope of your roof further determines the most suitable material, ensuring effective water runoff and overall structural integrity.
