At the gateway to the Salzkammergut, Laakirchen combines an Upper Austrian industrial town with countryside that quickly opens towards the Alpine foothills. Walking and cycling routes, sports facilities, cultural activities, and other local leisure options create a useful balance to working life. Industry has played a major role in the town’s development, with manufacturing, commerce, and skilled businesses established along the Traun and contributing to Laakirchen’s importance within the Gmunden district. At the same time, agriculture remains visible across much of the municipality. This mix provides employment in production, trade, services, skilled occupations, and other regional businesses.
At the same time, Upper Austria is one of the country's leading industrial and export hubs, with manufacturing, automotive, metalworking, engineering, timber, IT, and services playing an important role. Its central location also provides strong connections to the rest of Austria, Germany, and the Czech Republic.
