Metal workers fabricate, shape, assemble, and repair metal components used in construction, manufacturing, machinery, and structural projects. Their work often involves preparing materials to precise dimensions, using cutting and forming equipment, and assembling parts according to drawings or specifications. Depending on the role, they may work with steel, aluminium, stainless steel, or other metals and use both manual tools and workshop machinery.
Metal Worker responsibilities:
- Measure, mark, cut, bend, drill, and shape metal components according to specifications
- Read technical drawings, plans, and fabrication instructions
- Assemble metal parts and structures using suitable joining and fastening methods
- Operate hand tools, power tools, and metalworking machinery
- Prepare metal surfaces for further processing, assembly, or finishing
- Check dimensions, alignment, and fit of completed components
- Repair or modify existing metal parts and structures when required
- Follow workshop and site safety procedures when handling tools, machinery, and materials
Metal Worker requirements and skills:
- Practical experience in metalworking, fabrication, construction, or a related trade
- Ability to read measurements and basic technical drawings
- Knowledge of common metals and appropriate processing methods
- Safe use of cutting, drilling, grinding, forming, and other metalworking equipment
