Life in Obertrum is closely connected to the lake, with swimming, walking, cycling, sports, and local events providing a strong recreational focus. The municipality also has a surprisingly diverse business structure, with companies in skilled trades, retail, services, gastronomy, construction, healthcare, and other sectors. Tourism and the well-known local brewing tradition add further economic activity. Salzburg is within commuting distance, opening access to a much larger labor market in addition to jobs across the Flachgau. Obertrum therefore combines lakeside leisure with a broad regional employment environment.
The regional economy is diverse, with tourism and services playing a major role alongside manufacturing, trade, construction, logistics, and technology. Salzburg city is the main business and educational hub, while employment and economic activity are also spread across regional centers such as Hallein, Bischofshofen, and Zell am See.
