Forested hills, Alpine meadows, and the lakes of the Salzkammergut region give Faistenau a strong outdoor character. Hiking, cycling, winter activities, local sports, and traditional hospitality attract both residents and visitors. Tourism and gastronomy are important for employment, complemented by skilled trades, construction, retail, health-related services, and smaller local businesses. The short distance to Salzburg and the wider Fuschlsee region provides access to a much larger job market, allowing residents to combine a rural environment with metropolitan career opportunities.
The regional economy is diverse, with tourism and services playing a major role alongside manufacturing, trade, construction, logistics, and technology. Salzburg city is the main business and educational hub, while employment and economic activity are also spread across regional centers such as Hallein, Bischofshofen, and Zell am See.
