Ski jumping has made Bischofshofen internationally known, with the final event of the Four Hills Tournament giving the town a strong sporting identity. Its Alpine location also provides easy access to outdoor activities throughout the year. Yet Bischofshofen is much more than a sports destination. The development of the railway transformed it into an important transport hub, and the city has grown into a central economic, shopping, and cultural center for the surrounding region. A varied mix of businesses provides employment across different sectors, while strong transport connections make the town particularly practical for both local workers and commuters from the wider Pongau area.
The regional economy is diverse, with tourism and services playing a major role alongside manufacturing, trade, construction, logistics, and technology. Salzburg city is the main business and educational hub, while employment and economic activity are also spread across regional centers such as Hallein, Bischofshofen, and Zell am See.
