Historic town walls, vineyards, cellar lanes, and the landscape of Lake Neusiedl give Purbach a strong cultural and wine-growing identity. Cycling, waterside recreation, local restaurants, and wine events attract visitors throughout the year. Viticulture and tourism are important economic activities, supported by hospitality, retail, skilled trades, services, and smaller businesses. Eisenstadt and other northern Burgenland employment centers add opportunities in administration, healthcare, commerce, education, and professional services, while Vienna remains within the wider commuting region.
Burgenland lies along Austria's eastern border, with Eisenstadt as its capital and a regional structure shaped by smaller towns, rural communities, and close links to neighboring Hungary, Slovakia, and Slovenia. This cross-border position gives the state a distinctive role between Austria and Central and Eastern Europe, while its economy is supported by a strong base of small and medium-sized businesses alongside manufacturing, logistics, technology, tourism, and services.
