Lustenau has one of the strongest local economies in the Vorarlberg Rhine Valley, with a broad employment base spanning manufacturing, trade, services, healthcare, and social care. The town also has a long industrial tradition, particularly in embroidery and textile production, which still forms part of its economic identity today. Its location directly on the Swiss border gives local businesses and workers easy access to the wider cross-border labour market, adding an international dimension to a place that remains compact and strongly connected to the surrounding region.
Vorarlberg is Austria's westernmost state, with Bregenz as its capital and a dense network of towns stretching between Lake Constance and the Alpine valleys. Its location next to Germany, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein gives the region a strong international character, while its compact size keeps its main economic centers closely connected. At the same time, Vorarlberg has one of Austria's most export-oriented economies, with manufacturing, machinery, metalworking, technology, textiles, and related industries playing a major role in the regional business landscape.
