About the Job
Carpenters manufacture, fit, and repair furniture, interior fittings, doors, panels, and other components made from wood and wood-based materials. Their work can take place in a workshop as well as on site, from preparing individual parts to assembling and installing finished elements. Depending on the position, the role may involve custom-made furniture, built-in interiors, renovation work, or production based on technical drawings.
Carpenter responsibilities:
- Read drawings, measurements, and production specifications
- Measure, mark, cut, drill, mill, and shape wood and wood-based materials
- Manufacture and assemble furniture, cabinets, doors, panels, and interior fittings
- Fit hinges, handles, fittings, and other hardware
- Install finished components accurately on site
- Sand, prepare, and finish wooden surfaces where required
- Repair, adjust, or replace damaged wooden components
- Operate woodworking tools and machinery, including CNC equipment where relevant
- Check dimensions, fit, and function before completing the work
Carpenter requirements and skills:
- Practical experience in carpentry, joinery, cabinetmaking, or furniture production
- Good knowledge of wood, wood-based panels, fittings, and common construction methods
- Ability to read technical drawings and work accurately from measurements
- Experience with saws, routers, drills, sanding equipment, and other woodworking machinery
- Knowledge of joining, assembly, and installation techniques
- Ability to measure and prepare components accurately for fitting
- Experience with CNC woodworking machinery may be required for some positions
- Safe handling of woodworking tools, machines, materials, and workshop equipment
