About the Job
Plasterers create, repair, and restore plastered surfaces on walls, ceilings, façades, and other building elements. Their work is important both for new construction and renovation, where plaster systems are used to level surfaces, protect building components, prepare them for further finishing, or create the final visible surface. Depending on the project, the role may also include decorative plasterwork and restoration of existing finishes.
Plasterer responsibilities:
- Inspect and prepare walls, ceilings, façades, and other substrates before plastering
- Mix and apply suitable plaster, render, or finishing compounds
- Build up base and finishing coats to achieve the required surface
- Level, smooth, and finish freshly plastered areas using appropriate tools
- Repair cracks, damaged plaster, and uneven sections during renovation work
- Apply interior or exterior plaster systems according to project specifications
- Carry out decorative or stucco work where required
- Protect surrounding surfaces and keep tools and work areas ready for continued work
- Follow safety requirements when handling materials and working from ladders or scaffolding
Plasterer requirements and skills:
- Practical experience in plastering, rendering, stucco work, renovation, or a related trade
- Knowledge of different plaster systems, mortars, and finishing materials
- Ability to assess substrates and select suitable preparation methods
- Experience applying, levelling, smoothing, and finishing plaster by hand or with suitable equipment
- Understanding of interior and exterior plastering techniques
- Ability to identify and repair common defects such as cracks or damaged surfaces
- Safe use of plastering tools, mixing equipment, ladders, and scaffolding
- Physical ability to work for extended periods on walls, ceilings, and façades
