Bregenz, Vorarlberg
Bregenz is a compact regional capital with a strong service economy, a lively cultural scene, and close ties to the wider Lake Constance area. Public administration, retail, hospitality, tourism, and local businesses all contribute to the city’s employment base, while the Bregenz Festival gives the summer economy a particularly visible boost. Its position on the lake and near the German and Swiss borders also places Bregenz within a broader cross-border labour market, giving workers access to opportunities well beyond the city itself.
Vorarlberg is Austria's westernmost state, with Bregenz as its capital and a dense network of towns stretching between Lake Constance and the Alpine valleys. Its location next to Germany, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein gives the region a strong international character, while its compact size keeps its main economic centers closely connected. At the same time, Vorarlberg has one of Austria's most export-oriented economies, with manufacturing, machinery, metalworking, technology, textiles, and related industries playing a major role in the regional business landscape.
