About the Job
Flooring installers fit and replace floor coverings in homes, offices, commercial spaces, and renovated properties. The work starts with assessing and preparing the subfloor, then measuring, cutting, and installing the selected flooring so that the finished surface is stable, level, and suitable for everyday use. Depending on the project, installers may work with laminate, vinyl, carpet, PVC, linoleum, parquet, or similar materials.
Flooring Installer responsibilities:
- Measure rooms and calculate the amount of flooring material required
- Inspect, clean, level, and prepare subfloors before installation
- Cut and fit flooring materials around walls, corners, doorways, and fixed elements
- Install laminate, vinyl, carpet, PVC, linoleum, parquet, and other floor coverings
- Apply adhesives, underlays, or other installation materials where required
- Fit skirting boards, trims, transitions, and finishing profiles
- Remove and replace existing floor coverings during renovation work
- Repair damaged sections and complete finishing work after installation
- Use cutting, measuring, fitting, and installation tools safely
Flooring Installer requirements and skills:
- Practical experience in flooring installation, interior finishing, or a related trade
- Knowledge of common flooring materials and suitable installation methods
- Ability to assess and prepare different types of subfloors
- Accurate measuring, cutting, and material planning skills
- Experience with adhesives, underlays, trims, and finishing systems
- Safe use of flooring installation tools and equipment
- Understanding of expansion gaps, transitions, and other installation requirements
- Physical ability to work in kneeling positions and handle flooring materials
