Demolition workers dismantle, remove, and clear building elements as part of renovation, redevelopment, or full demolition projects. Depending on the site, the work may involve taking down walls, ceilings, flooring, fixtures, or structural components using hand tools and demolition equipment. The role also includes separating materials, removing debris, and preparing cleared areas for the next stage of construction.
Demolition Worker responsibilities:
- Remove walls, ceilings, flooring, fixtures, and other building components
- Use hand tools, breakers, saws, and other demolition equipment safely
- Dismantle materials according to site instructions and the planned demolition sequence
- Separate reusable, recyclable, and waste materials during removal work
- Load, move, and dispose of rubble and demolished materials
- Clear work areas and keep access routes free of debris
- Assist with selective demolition during renovation and refurbishment projects
- Identify unstable or hazardous areas and follow instructions before continuing work
- Use protective equipment and follow demolition and site safety procedures
Demolition Worker requirements and skills:
- Practical experience in demolition, construction, renovation, or other physical site work is an advantage
- Ability to use common demolition hand tools and power tools safely
- Basic understanding of building materials and demolition procedures
- Ability to follow demolition plans, site instructions, and restricted work areas
- Understanding of safe material handling and debris removal
- Physical fitness for lifting, carrying, breaking, and removing building materials
