A former ducal city in the heart of Carinthia, Sankt Veit an der Glan combines a historic old town with cafés, shops, cultural events, sports facilities, and easy access to a region known for castles and other excursion destinations. Its attractive center gives the town a strong leisure and retail character, but Sankt Veit is also an important place to work. More than 1,500 businesses are based in the city, including industrial and commercial companies as well as firms active in renewable energy and solar technology. Retail, services, manufacturing, and public-sector activities broaden the employment mix, while road, rail, and nearby Klagenfurt Airport provide useful connections to the wider Carinthian job market.
This location also shapes Carinthia's economy and connections. Alongside tourism and services, manufacturing, electronics, technology, construction, and trade play an important role, particularly around Klagenfurt and Villach. At the same time, links to neighboring countries make the region well connected within the wider Alpine-Adriatic area.
