More than 150 kilometers of walking routes, cycling opportunities, and a largely green landscape give Alkoven an active outdoor character close to the Danube and the Upper Austrian central region. Local restaurants, community life, and regional recreation add further variety. Employment in the municipality is spread across skilled trades, services, retail, agriculture, and smaller local businesses. At the same time, the nearby centers of Eferding and Linz considerably expand the range of jobs available to commuters. This combination makes Alkoven especially practical for people who prefer a quieter municipality but want to remain connected to a strong regional economy.
At the same time, Upper Austria is one of the country's leading industrial and export hubs, with manufacturing, automotive, metalworking, engineering, timber, IT, and services playing an important role. Its central location also provides strong connections to the rest of Austria, Germany, and the Czech Republic.
