At the foot of the Untersberg and just outside Salzburg, Grödig combines Alpine surroundings with the advantages of being close to a major city. Hiking and outdoor activities are an obvious part of local life, while playgrounds, a pump track, sports areas, and the large recreation park in Fürstenbrunn provide additional options for leisure. Grödig also has a long industrial tradition that developed around water power and later grew into a diverse modern economy. Today small, medium-sized, and larger companies provide jobs in technology, manufacturing, construction materials, food production, services, and other sectors. Together with the nearby Salzburg employment market, this gives residents a broad range of career opportunities within a relatively compact area.
The regional economy is diverse, with tourism and services playing a major role alongside manufacturing, trade, construction, logistics, and technology. Salzburg city is the main business and educational hub, while employment and economic activity are also spread across regional centers such as Hallein, Bischofshofen, and Zell am See.
