About the Job
Electricians install, maintain, test, and repair electrical systems in residential, commercial, and construction environments. Their work can include wiring, distribution systems, lighting, sockets, control equipment, and other electrical components. Depending on the role, electricians may work on new installations, renovations, troubleshooting, or ongoing maintenance, always following technical plans and applicable safety standards.
Electrician responsibilities:
- Install wiring, cables, sockets, switches, lighting, and electrical equipment
- Read electrical plans, diagrams, and technical specifications
- Connect and test electrical circuits and components
- Locate faults and carry out repairs or replacements
- Install or assist with distribution boards, control systems, and protective devices
- Perform routine inspections and maintenance on electrical systems
- Check completed work using appropriate testing and measuring equipment
- Coordinate electrical work with other trades on construction or renovation sites
- Follow electrical safety procedures and applicable technical regulations
Electrician requirements and skills:
- Practical experience in electrical installation or a related field
- Good understanding of electrical circuits, wiring systems, and common electrical components
- Ability to read electrical drawings and technical documentation
- Experience using electrical tools, testers, and measuring equipment
- Knowledge of fault finding, repair, and maintenance procedures
- Understanding of electrical protection, grounding, and safe isolation procedures
- Ability to carry out installations according to technical specifications and safety requirements
- Additional licences or certifications may be required depending on the position and type of electrical work
